In partnership with the federal government, we work to expand public procurement opportunities for producers in the Amazon sociobioeconomy—strengthening value chains such as açaí, Brazil nuts, babassu, and cupuaçu. By supporting the Contrata+Brasil platform (Ministry of Innovation Management in Public Services — MGI) and the development agenda of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), we aim to make procurement more efficient and accessible, driving sustainable local development.
The initiative has the potential to generate approximately US$6.5 million per year in public procurement in the region, contributing to the preservation of 38,000 hectares and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The project is supported by Google.org, which has provided over US$1 million in support of the structuring of digital public markets focused on a favorable climate and economic impact in the Amazon.
In partnership with the Minas Gerais State Secretariat of Planning and Management (SEPLAG), we are integrating sustainability and carbon-reduction criteria into the state’s public procurement practices. Minas Gerais, Brazil’s third-largest state by population and economy, plays a key role in shaping national policies.
Our strategies guide the Annual Procurement Plan, promoting environmentally efficient purchases with a low climate impact. The initiative is supported by a grant from the Climate and Society Institute (iCS) and aims to achieve lasting, measurable reductions in carbon-equivalent emissions linked to government procurement.
